Well, the weekend is over and as things would have it, I am skint to the bone with just enough money to get me a kopi for breakfast. In the mean time, the bills have hit again and I have to somehow meditate on how to get through.
Funnily enough, I'm fairly relaxed. I think it had something to do with the weekend being rainy. Between the rainy weather and the fan, my room has been cool and sleep has been something I have managed to catch-up with. Instead of feeling like crap, I actually feel decently refreshed.
Anyway, managed to send off three stories to Arab News, which, God willing they will publish - and hopefully contribute towards my savings account sometime in September. I don't know but this year has been rather ...dull in the financial front. Yes, I've survived on a retainer and a few bits and bobs here but nothing has come about to get me very excited about the work that I do. I have, when I analyse things also been partially to blame - I've been trying out internet scams like trying to click my way to success instead on focusing on what I do best - writing news articles, which pay fairly better than all the other things combined.
Managed to drop by Luke's for a good wine and cheese session. As usual, our weekend meets were highly energising and the exchange of ideas was healthy. It's always nice to have someone you can bounce off ideas with. Discovered a new term "Bounce-Back Entrepreneurs." This phrase neatly sums up my situation where I get a good pile of cash and then need to build it up again. I got to change my mindset - Having a come back makes good headlines but how often do you want to keep comming back. I remember Mark Eaton, last CEO of Chrylser before they became Daimler Chrysler saying, "Hopefully I won't be the CEO who brought the company back from the dead."
Iraq won the Asian Football Championship. Although Saudi was beaten in the final (can't share good news with my good friends), Iraq's victory is nice - Insh Allah, this will give that war-torn nation something decent to talk about for a change. Am so glad that the Australians, Japanese and Koreans did not make it into the final! World is too filled with Australian Cultured people trying to impose their ideals on people with culture and too many Japanese and Korean men who think its acceptable to dye their hair in some God Awful colour.
Mother called. The family came back from a holiday in France. Unfortunately they were robbed in broad daylight - a smash and grab case - but everyone is alright. And they managed to get a dose of French food on their journey - Mother did say that the food she had showed the reason why French food sets the standards for Western Cuisine.
National Day comming up soon. The usual bouts of patriotic songs are blaring out from all over the place and before you know it, Singapore will be going through its annual bout of spending money on trying to create patriotism. Much as I appreciate the holiday and the bout of pomp and ceremony, I do think that alot more could be achieved if the Joe Public was given some things to feel greatful for being Singaporean. It's not that I think the government has done a bad job - in fact it has done a darn good job at giving the people the goodies. However, when you read the papers or listen to the news, its always case of "We need high salaries, you stupid - you take pay cut etc etc" It's not exactly an inspiring message to feel.
