Sanitized Vanitisued

It's a Friday and once again, I have reached the level of being utterly skint. I think it had something to do with discovering a wonderful band in the Long Bar at the Raffles Hotel. It could also have been something to do with the fact that this week I decided that I needed to let my hair grow out a bit instead of maintaining the shinney happy person look. Whatever it is, I'm struggling to retain a bit of sanity after a very enjoyable Thursday evening - which was spent at AdAsia's Pub Night, followed by the Long Bar at the Raffles, then at the Lock, Stock and Barrel and then at Usman's Pakistani restaurant at four plus in the morning. Needless to say, the intelligence level is at an all time low, not that it was very high in the first place.

AdAsia's Pub night was a blast. It was held at the Loof, but thanks to the fact that it was raining, I spent it hidding in a little corner. Managed to get more than my fair share of red wine without having to pay for it. Food came in abundance! And I ended up meeting someone from an advertising firm who is interested in offering PR services to his clients. Somehow networking functions always seem so much more satisfying when you meet people who want to arrange business meetings with you after the event. Anyway, this is, Insh Allah, a sign that I can develop my own stream of clients, independently from the consortiums I've been working with. Another case of not being too dependent on one particular source of income.

Long Bar at the Raffles was fun. The guys in the band are very good and the place is filled with some attractive tourist and older ladies looking to enrich the Nepalese Boy business that I hope to set-up . OK, jokes aside, the booze is a little on the high side (it usually is in Singapore) but the band is fantastic. Live bands are always good! Anyway, we stayed past midnight and since the cab fare was going to be a killer whatever hour we chose to leave, we decided to follow the guys to Lock, Stock and Barrel, a pub that's near the Raffles Hotel.

Lock, Stock and Barrel is a cute place. It's got its regular patrons, everyone seems to know everyone. I like this about a PUB, reminds me of your typical English Pub, where much of the community's social efforts revolve around. Beer is relatively cheap, around $8-12 a pint and they serve Guiness on the tap.

Ended-up dancing with a cute Malay girl who works at Mortons, my favourite steak house in Singapore. She was out with one of the chefs. Striking up a friendship with them will definately make Mortons so much more enjoyable, but I definately will have to wait till my next decent pay cheque .

Anyway, the chick is hot in a cute and friendly way - though I get a little suspicoius when told I have the right moves........I usually don't get on the dance floor until I've had enough to drink (Well...it depends, in a setting of pro-dancers, Filipinos and Latins, not even bottles of Absolut will entice me. but if I'm out with a group of Americans, Brits or Australian blokes, I'm more inclined to do so cause whatever I do, I'll definately look better). I remember a young lady who thought it was a compliment to tell me me that my dance steps reminded her of - William Huang - American Idols most famous loser (But then as Joe reminds me, he may be ugly and inarticulate but I'm not the one being offered US$50,000 by recording companies and I'm definately not making Ricky "I'm a Hot Latin Sex Symbol" Martin feel so threatened that he wants to sue me.) So I guess the comparision to William Huang may not be so awkward after all.
